SemSeminar “From the Popular Party to the ‘Intransigent Popular’. The democratic Catholics: Luigi Granelli and the La Base”

Sala Perin del Vaga - Istituto Luigi Sturzo

In September 1953, in Belgirate, the current La Base was born, a progressive wing of Christian Democracy, founded, together with other friends, by Luigi Granelli, of whom he was one of the most brilliant and courageous exponents.

Class 1929, Granelli was part of the so-called “third generation” of Christian Democracy, whose political story coincides with that of the current La Base: a laboratory of ideas, a sort of school of civil conscience, where there are no teachers or leaders but where the “circularity” of the story prevails. A laboratory that tries, succeeding, to also become industrious militancy and, above all, filter the things that come from below, from the base in fact.

To remember the figure, the activity and the long experience of the Lombard politician, on May 8th 2019 h. 11.00, in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, the Luigi Sturzo Institute organized the Seminar From the Popular Party to the “intransigent People” The democratic Catholics: Luigi Granelli and the “Base”.
